Filippiner aften i Odense – stor succes!

Solen kastede lange skygger på de historiske brosten foran Grønttorvet, da de første gæster ankom. Det var helt i H.C. Andersens ånd, at der i aften skulle fortælles historier fra fjerne egne.

Bestyreren Søren, serverede kolde drikkevare over baren fra 1800-tallet og der gik ikke længe, før lokalerne summede af liv. Det var dejligt at se, så mange kendte og nye ansigter. Der blev serveret et par lune retter, inden Elisabet startede billedshowet og Flemming greb mikrofonen, for at præsentere foreningens projekter på Filippinerne.

Efter følgende blev der solgt lodder og alle var meget ivrige efter at være med, da hoved gevinsten var en flaske Tanduay! Natten var stadig ung, da Helms Trio slog de første noder an og mange blev hængende og hyggede sig til de sene timer. Alt i alt var den første filippiner aften i Danmark en stor succes.

ENTERTAINMENT FOR CHILDREN AT MEDICAL MISSION

Every year for the last 8 years, our clowns and puppeteers have been partaking in a special medical mission here in Cebu. ”Operation Restore Hope” is an Australian based foundation whose aim it is to operate on children with harelip and cleft pallet in the Philippines. They hold these missions twice a year.

These children (about 100) with their families all attended the screening of the patients on the first day of the mission, and it was here our team of clowns and puppeteers set up to make this occation soecial. The atmosphere at the reception hall soon changed from being a bit hushed and sober, to that of laughter and happiness as the puppets sang fun songs and the clowns, Lizzie and Jane, got the children to participate. The parents and the organizers (The Rotary Club)were relieved that we got the childrens’ minds away from that of upcoming operations and pain.

Clown Lizzie twisted balloons for all the children after the show, and they excitedly played with their new toys. A wonderful beginning of a medical mission where the doctors, nurses, dentists, organizors etc. did a marvellous job for 1 week, and made a big difference for these children whose parents would never afford the operation. The children’s future is brighter and happier as a result of these volunteers from ”Operation Restore Hope’s” giving and caring! We admire you!
